ABOUT THIS COFFEE

This outstanding honey-process coffee from Indonesia is grown by dedicated smallholder farmers in the Aceh region of Sumatra. These farmers experimented with different processing methods, as the climate and history in Sumatra generally lead producers to use a wet-hulled method. Through careful planning, they were able to produce a spectacularly fruit-forward coffee that is unlike any other coffee we’ve tasted from Sumatra.

Beach Day has a really special taste profile consisting of blueberry, florals, and well-balanced but complex mix of flavors more akin to a cocktail. Filter methods like V60 or Chemex are the best way to highlight the fruit and floral aspects of this coffee.

ABOUT THE FARMERS

The Gayo Arabika Mahkota Indonesia (GARMINDO) cooperative represents 760 members farming small plots of land around 1.5 ha. on average, tucked into the dense tropical forests of the Northern Gayo Mountains. Rural farms in Indonesia are often so small and scattered, they resemble more unnamed gardens tended to by their owners.

Established in 2008, GARMINDO was formed by a producer referred to as Sakdan, who owns and operates Bergandal Farm and Mill, which also serves as a collection point for the coffees grown by neighbors. Sakdan and his brothers are the children of coffee producers and, as long-time supporters of their fellow farmers, are dedicated to developing community and sharing resources.
