ABOUT SALI ABA FOGI
Around 800 small farm holders of specialty varietals cooperatively produce this washed coffee. The milling is managed by the Sali Aba Fogi Wet Mill. Limmu is located within the Djimmah area in the western highlands of Oromia, Ethiopia. The area is famous for its forests and abundant water supply. This creates ideal conditions for the reincorporation of organic matter into the soil. These hummus-rich soils ensure that the coffee trees are well fed..
ABOUT ETHIOPIAN LANDRACE VARIETIES
Ethiopia is widely acknowledged as where coffee originated, and its production continues to represent about 10% of the country’s gross domestic product. DNA testing has confirmed over 60 distinct varieties growing in Ethiopia, making it home to the most coffee biodiversity of any region in the world. Given the tradition of coffee production in Ethiopia and the political inter-workings of the Ethiopian coffee trade, it is virtually impossible to get single variety coffee lots from Ethiopia. This is changing, albeit very slowly. Most Ethiopian coffees are blends of the many wild and locally adapted Ethiopian varieties.
